Pyrite crystals to 11 cm on spessartine on granite, 32 cm, from the older workings at the Wushan spessartine mine, Tongbei, Fujian Province, China. Obtained directly from mine owner Chen Weigang’s family collection during a visit to China circa 2008; mined by them some years before. This is after trimming to remove about 50 pounds of excess mass. This is the largest (and unrepaired) pyrite from the locality. The complex growth patterns on the surfaces resemble a Borg cube.
