Golden crystal groupings of cubic pyrite measuring to 3.5 cm in size coming off matrix. This is in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. His label notes that the piece was collected from the north stope, 1200 level, by Brian Huntsman in August, 1996.The Brushy Creek Mine, located in Reynolds County within the Viburnum Trend (New Lead Belt) of southeast Missouri, sits within Mississippi Valley-type ore deposits hosted in Cambrian-aged dolostones along the flanks of the St. Francois Mountains. The geology features complex collapse breccias where metal-bearing solutions deposited economic minerals within dolostone host rocks. Following extensive exploration drilling that began as the older regional districts declined, the Brushy Creek mine and mill officially opened in late 1973 as one of the newer major operations along the trend. Over the decades, underground room-and-pillar mining yielded significant production, while the underground workings and dumps have also become globally famous among mineral collectors for producing exceptional specimens of crystallized minerals like calcite, chalcopyrite, and various sulfides.
