Diopside on Calcite from Kazakhstan, Karaganda Region, Altyn-Tyube dioptase deposit
3

A small cabinet crystal specimen from the well-known Altyn-Tyube copper occurrence in central Kazakhstan, a locality long admired for producing Dioptase in striking green tones. This piece is densely layered with sharply formed crystals that show strong transparency across multiple faces, giving them a gem-like presence even without backlighting. The crystals carry a bright, vitreous luster with smooth, reflective surfaces that respond vividly to light.

The cluster is hosted entirely on a pale Calcite matrix, providing a subtle mineral contrast that naturally elevates the saturated emerald-green color of the crystals. Individual Dioptase crystals grow to around 12 mm, showing clean edges and distinct terminations. The overall clarity, surface shine, and color intensity are considered above the typical range for material from this region, making this a particularly expressive pocket example.
