A cluster of lustrous deep green opaque diopside crystals measuring to 5.0 x 3.5 x 1.0 cm in size across the top of matrix with minor colorless crystals of the scapolite series. In good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark collected this piece on August 26, 1999.Located within the Grenville geological province of western Quebec, the Otter Lake region is characterized by ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks, including marble and skarn deposits formed through high temperature regional metamorphism and metasomatism. While the area has seen little large scale commercial mining, it is internationally renowned among mineral collectors and museums for producing exceptional, highly lustrous, dark green diopside crystals often embedded in white calcite or associated with yellow scapolite. Local collecting prospects have been pursued by hobbyists and field collectors targeting rural outcrops and small weathered pockets within the Grenville marble terrains.
