Iron var. Pallasite meteorite, with Olivine (Peridot)
A 173-gram slice, beautifully cut and polished, of the famous Seymchan meteorite find. This particular slice is highly enriched with olivine zones - frozen crystals of olivine, literally a gemstone (peridot) from space! This is a classic example of the pallasite class of meteorites, but not all pallasite slices have so much thick, rich, translucent zoning of these frozen peridot zones. A mixture of iron (80-90%) and nickel (9.15%), this is extraterrestrial meteoric iron as a specimen, and fits with minerals due to the beauty within. This piece has a nice display shape, part of which preserves some of the original external rind. This is probably more old than the Earth itself! The composition and structure of the Seymchan meteorite suggest it formed at the core-mantle boundary of a large celestial body that was broken apart in the early solar system over 4.56 billion years ago.
