Wulfenite
Unknown Owner
Classic Tsumeb in form, this large, 2.5 cm wulfenite crystal has the distinctive habit and traits that sets Tsumeb wulfenites apart from other specimens of this popular species. Perhaps most notable is the superb adamantine luster that gives the crystals an almost 'metallic' sheen. The typical pillow shape is slightly modified on one termination, and the wide bevels along the edges are sharp. The wulfenite has a dark-honey color that is very attractive, but within the crystal there is a shading that is highly unusual. This color zone is parallel to the a and b axes, thus visually splitting the crystal along the c-axis. One half of the crystal is honey-colored, and the reverse side is a dusty grey, perhaps from a preferential layer of micro galena or an oxide. The gemminess of the crystal allows you to fully visualize the remarkable demarcation between the two halves, and gives the crystal an other-worldly aesthetic. Superb for species and locale.
