Cavansite from India

Cavansite is actually an extremely rare mineral, with only four worldwide occurrences. It just so happens that one of the occurrences, the traprock quarries in the Mumbai area of India, has produced tremendous numbers of good specimens, making this very rare mineral readily available to collectors. Nonetheless, the cavansite localities in India are in a relatively limited area, and continued development has greatly reduced the number of new finds being made. It’s now starting to get pretty hard to find good cavansite specimens on the market now. This 8.5 cm specimen is a superb example, consisting of several inter-grown balls of blue cavansite set on a beautifully contrasting matrix of snow-white stilbite crystals. If you don’t have a good cavansite in your collection yet, this would be an excellent choice!
