Morganite

A unique morganite with inclusions of blue tourmaline from the lesser known Katerina mine in San Diego. The piece detached in the pocket and shows an etched back making this specimen a full floater. The surface near the tourmaline shows textural impressions of what was likely a second deposition of tourmaline that was later eaten away in the pocket during the same event that etched the back side of the morganite. A very unusual California gem pegmatite specimen. This mine has a great write up of it’s history on mindat.
