Chlorargyrite

Unknown Owner
This rich thumbnail Chlorargyrite from Johanngeorgenstadt, Erzgebirge, Saxony is a historic one, coming with two 19th century handwritten labels. One of these appears to mention F. Zschau who was a mineralogist who published articles on Norwegian minerals in around 1870. The Type Locality for Chlorargyrite is in Erzgebirge, but specifically the Marienberg mining district 15 miles east of Johanngeorgenstadt. The specimen itself, forms a rounded 'ball' of silvery-grey greasy Chlorargyrite, about 1 cm in diameter attached to a tiny amount of matrix. It is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
