A startlingly fine example of classic, historic blue topaz. Most of these came out of Russia in the 1800s, perhaps into the early 1900s; or even earlier. Surviving examples in such quality almost never turn up for sale. This is from the Collections of Al Sebela and Larry Conklin, via Russ Behnke. It is an exceptional small miniature or large thumbnail example of a classic, long gone find; and of a quality rarely associated with historic mineral specimens in this size range.
