Crystal ClassicsFeatured
Tucson, Arizona, USABroken Hill in New South Wales, Australia is renowned for a very distinctive form of Rhodonite, but also for its somewhat bizarre association with Galena. From the famous North mine at Broken Hill this miniature specimen is more than 50% Galena, showing classic cubic cleavage faces and bright metallic lustre. Within the Galena are embedded well-formed raspberry-red Rhodonite crystals displaying rounded crystal edges. The largest Rhodonite crystal measures over 1 cm in length and displays a slightly tabular form. This colour and form combination of Rhodonite is unique worldwide, and added to its association with Galena makes for really unusual material.
