The beautiful pink variety of Quartz known as Rose Quartz is commonly seen as polished tumbled stones in high street crystal shops but this belies the fact that it is virtually never seen as individual crystals. Indeed, out of all the varieties of Quartz, Rose Quartz is one of the most unusual, even in the rough. To find a crystallized specimen is exceptionally rare, with very few known occurrences worldwide. Then, moving from just crystals to something damage-free and aesthetic takes things to a whole different level of rarity. This small cabinet display specimen is from the pegmatites at Ilha claim nearTaquaral in the famous gem-producing Jequitinhonha Valley in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The pink colour is wonderfully intense and, in common with all Rose Quartz, the crystals are small and coalesced, rather than the larger, longer crystals usually seen in Rock Crystal and Smoky varieties of Quartz. A small aggregate of massive Milky Quartz forms the central core of the specimen around which the Rose Quartz has crystallized. A remarkable Rose Quartz from the world's premier locality and much larger than most seen from here.
