FLUOR-Liddicoatite
The rare tourmaline species Fluor-liddicoatite is the fluorine analogue of Liddicoatite and this magnificent miniature is from, or from very close to, its type locality near to Antsirabe in the Vakinankaratra Region of Madagascar. This locality is probably as close as you can get to the centre of Madagascar. Two superb translucent plum purple Fluor-liddicoatite crystals are intergrown, one doubly-terminated and the other, apparently doubly-terminated but with one lower face either fractured and partly re-healed, or naturally etched. The Fluor-liddicoatite prisms measure overall to 4.6 x 3.0 x 1.0 cm and 3.4 x 1.5 x 1.3 cm and are jauntily perched on a single crystal of opaque creamy white Albite Feldspar. Overgrowing one face of the Albite is an apricot orange botryoidal mineral with a waxy lustre and micro-bubbly texture, possibly Lepidolite mica but this requires further investigation. A stunning specimen of the rare tourmaline Fluor-liddicoatite from Estatoby in Madagascar mounted vertically on a clear acrylic base and with the previous collector's label.
