Luilu is an industrial and metallurgical center located in the Lualaba Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, famously anchored by the major Luilu metallurgical plant and refinery established in 1952 by Union Miniere du Haut-Katanga (later Gecamines) to process copper and cobalt ores. While the industrial complex and adjacent operations remain active today, the surrounding geology is situated within the world-renowned Central African Copperbelt, characterized by Neoproterozoic sediment-hosted stratiform copper and cobalt deposits embedded within folded and faulted rocks of the Lufilian Arc.
