A superb ball of crystallized deep green malachite set on matrix. In terrific condition. Excellent for the species, from recent finds, 2021, in the Congo. The Mashamba West Mine, situated within the Kolwezi mining district of the Lualaba Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is part of the prominent Dima group of deposits. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within the Kolwezi Klippe, an extensive Neoproterozoic thrust sheet where folded and faulted Roan Group sedimentary rocks contain rich stratabound copper and cobalt mineralization. The open pit operation specifically targeted an anticlinal apex heavily influenced by supergene oxidation, producing abundant malachite, cuprite, and cobalt oxides alongside chalcocite. Historically developed under mid-to-late 20th century state-backed industrial concessions, the mine has more recently been integrated into modern joint-venture operations managed by La Sino-Congolaise des Mines (Sicomines) to extract critical battery metals.
