Azurite with Malachite

Unknown Owner
A beautiful antique Austrian specimen with sparkling blue crystallized azurite very rich across the top of matrix with green malachite. The specimen comes with an antique label that dates this to the very early 20th century, if not the 19th century. In great condition. Specimens of such quality from this old locality are rarely seen available today.Leogang in Salzburg, Austria, is a historic mining district that was worked for several centuries, with activity dating back to at least the Middle Ages for silver, lead, and copper. Mining expanded during the 18th and 19th centuries with extensive underground workings in hydrothermal vein deposits hosted in alpine rocks. In the oxidized zones of these deposits, secondary minerals formed. Azurite occurs at Leogang as deep blue crystals and masses, often associated with malachite and other copper minerals.
