Hematite after Ilmenite in LIZARDITE
A rare specimen of well-developed Ilmenite crystals measuring to 4 cm which have then been replaced by Hematite. The ilmenite and partial pseudomorphs are partly embedded in yellow Lizardite and some white Hydrotalcite. This small cabinet specimen is from the Serpentine-magnesite deposit in Buskerud, Norway. The pseudomorphed crystals are a metallic lustrous grey-black, making a fine example. This deposit contains small serpentine-magnesite bodies which occur in rocks of Precambrian age (i.e. greater than 541 million years).
