This is a significant and important Pyrrhotite and Fluorite combination piece from a small find from this silver mine in China from early 2019. It is an aesthetic combination specimen that consists of a central, large, bright Pyrrhotite crystal surrounded by Fluorite and Calcite to produce one beautiful and well-balanced piece! For the combination, I consider these some of the world's best of species. A single, exceptionally bright, metallic bronze, hexagonal crystal of Pyrrhotite is centered right in the middle of this amazing piece surrounded by two generations of zoned purple Fluorite crystals and thin, local crusts of white-yellow Calcite. The large Pyrrhotite crystal measures 4.7 cm across and is sharply formed and distinctly zoned. It displays a brilliantly bronze colored, mirror-like metallic luster with noticeable changes in reflectivity and texture across the crystal in obvious hexagonal zones, something we have never seen before in Pyrrhotite and it's super cool! The Fluorite on the piece is also very intriguing as there is an early generation of lavender, transparent to translucent cubo-octahedral Fluorite crystal that is partly overgrown by a later generation of translucent, dark purple Fluorite with the same geometric forms resulting in great contrast in color and angular texture. A later to intermediate generation of thin, ivory colored, botryoidal Calcite covers some of the Fluorite and also fills in areas between the Fluorite crystals, adding to the color and textural contrast on this showy piece.
