A classic Australian specimen, this a lustrous sharply formed black crystal of dravite. In good condition. The North Deposit at Yinnietharra Station in the Upper Gascoyne region of Western Australia is hosted within ancient Precambrian metamorphic rock formations, specifically characterized by black phlogopite schist zones where metasomatic activity facilitated unique crystal growth. Initially discovered in 1918, the area gained significant attention when mineral claims were actively mined starting in the late 1960s to extract world-class tourmaline specimens. Dravite, a complex cyclosilicate mineral belonging to the tourmaline group rich in sodium and magnesium, forms remarkable euhedral crystals at this locality. The North Deposit is particularly famous for producing striking, highly lustrous black dravite crystals, many displaying sharp double terminations and distinct internal zoning embedded directly within the dark mica schist matrix.
