One side of this matrix is covered with glittering attractive green crystals of uvarovite measuring to 0.1 cm in size. Purple acicular crystals of shuiskite measuring to 0.6 cm in length are scattered throughout. The Saranovskii Mine, located in the Gornozavodskii district of Perm Krai, Russia, is situated within the western slope of the Ural Mountains and is world-renowned for its rich chromite deposits hosted in serpentinized ultramafic rocks. Geological processes involving low-temperature hydrothermal alteration of these chromium-rich rocks led to the formation of rare chromium minerals within veins and fracture zones. Discovered in the nineteenth century, the mine has been operated extensively for industrial chromium ore while simultaneously gaining fame among mineral collectors worldwide. Saranovskii is particularly celebrated for producing some of the finest known specimens of emerald-green uvarovite garnet, often occurring as brilliant drusy crusts of tiny crystals, along with rare chromium-bearing silicates and carbonates such as kaemmererite and shuiskite.
