An attractive cut and polished section through banded massive barite, this With crystallized golden marcasite. Polished on both sides. The specimen comes with a previous label from the Alton collection and dates to 2012.The Lubin district in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland, lies within the Fore-Sudetic Monocline and is internationally famous for its massive sedimentary copper-silver mineral deposits hosted in Zechstein basin strata. Formed during Permian times, these strata consist of rich black shales, sandstones, and carbonates that underwent extensive post-depositional fluids mineralization, leading to the crystallization of diverse mineral species within veins and open fractures. Underground copper mining, which began on a large industrial scale in the mid-twentieth century, opened access to unique mineralized cavities containing thick crusts and nodules of barite intimately intergrown with metallic marcasite. Cut and polished cross sections of these barite and marcasite formations display striking concentric bands, fibrous patterns, and golden-to-grey metallic brassy rings surrounding tabular cream-to-amber barite crystals, making them highly prized decorative display pieces among mineral collectors.
