Velvety, deep green botryoidal malachite from Guangdong, China, shown here as a richly sculpted cluster of overlapping domes and cascading forms. The surfaces have a fine, satiny sheen that catches the light in glowing concentric “bullseye” rings on nearly every bubble, a subtle, almost chatoyant effect that makes the piece look alive as you turn it. The dark, green velvet skin contrasts with flashes of vivid emerald-green fibrous malachite exposed along the edges and in the open, lacy pockets toward the top right, where delicate tufted sprays and twisting, worm-like botryoids add depth and architecture. It is a fine hand-sized specimen with excellent three-dimensional aesthetics and good presence from multiple angles, and it is in very good condition overall, with only a couple of tiny, inconsequential contact marks on the domes. This is a classic look in velvet malachite that rewards close inspection under a loupe or a good spotlight.
