Mining activity dates back centuries to early indigenous workings, but modern industrial exploitation began in the early twentieth century, focusing primarily on high-grade copper vein deposits enriched with secondary copper minerals, quartz, and hematite. Mineral collectors worldwide prize Bou Skour for producing outstanding micro-to-cabinet-sized specimens, most notably lustrous, well-crystallized bornite, chalcopyrite, and azurite, as well as exceptionally well-formed quartz crystals and rare secondary species. Active underground and surface operations over the decades have consistently yielded superb mineralogical specimens that remain prominent in public and private collections.
