A beautifully crystallized example of native gold, this bright lustrous elongated twinned crystals in a cluster without matrix. In excellent condition all around. This weighs 2.57 g. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
Located in the Assa-Zag Province of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region in southwestern Morocco, Aouint Yghomane lies within an arid geological setting where hydrothermal vein structures hosted in ancient sedimentary rock sequences localized rich precious-metal mineralization. Artisanal prospectors and local miners working small-scale workings recently exposed primary hydrothermal channels carrying exceptional native gold. Rather than typical water-worn placer flakes, the locality is celebrated among mineral collectors for producing magnificent, highly lustrous crystallized gold. These specimens frequently feature distinct, elongated spinel-law twins, sharp wire shapes, hoppered structures, and curved ram horn-style aggregates often attached to sparse matrix minerals such as quartz, calcite, or goethite, establishing the site as one of the most prominent sources of fine specimen gold in North Africa.
