White crystallized balls of pectolite measuring to 2.5 cm in diameter very nice on matrix with white small crystals of laumontite and minor heulandite. This is in good condition. Nice for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Located in Passaic County, New Jersey, the Prospect Park Quarry (historically known as the Sowerbutt or Vandermade Quarry) was opened in 1901 to excavate high-grade crushed trap rock from the Early Jurassic Orange Mountain Basalt.Geologically, the quarry exposes thick basaltic lava flows containing gas vesicles, pillow formations, and fault fractures where hydrothermal fluids rich in silica and calcium altered the cooling rock.Over more than a century of industrial aggregate mining, these cavity systems produced world-class specimen cavities lined with quartz varieties like amethyst and agate, along with fine crystals of prehnite, datolite, calcite, pectolite, and various zeolites. The location became a classic destination for mineral collectors, though access was closely regulated through organized mineral club field trips until quarry operations ceased and site reclamation began.
