Situated in the Braldu Valley within the Shigar District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, Dassu is world-famous for its complex granitic pegmatites intruded into high-grade metamorphic rocks of the Karakoram metamorphic complex. Artisanal miners have worked the steep, rugged cliffs of the area for decades using basic hand tools to open fluid-rich hydrothermal pockets. The locality is renowned among mineral collectors worldwide for producing exceptional gem-quality specimens, particularly lustrous quartz, aquamarine, black tourmaline (schorl), topaz, and rare accessory minerals.
