Le Burg mine near Alban, Tarn, Midi-Pyrénées was the last Fluorite (fluorspar) mine to operate in France, closing in 2006, but not before it had earned a reputation for some of the finest Fluorite mineral specimens found in the country. Its classic style is baby blue to pastel blue cubic crystals, sometimes aggregated and sometimes with small bipyramidal Quartz crystals sparsely scattered on top. This small cabinet-sized specimen features two very large (for Le Burg) intergrown cubic crystals offset slightly with each other and presenting a paler, watery blue to greyish blue colour with good translucency. These crystals display extremely well from the front, showing all sides and with just minimal microscopic chipping to their edges and one or two corners. At 4.2 x 3.1 and 4.0 x 3.6 cm on edge, these crystals are significant and the addition of several small colourless, glassy bipyramidal Quartz crystals studded upon the slightly stepped, glassy surface of the Fluorite adds to their beauty and class. The side edges of the Fluorite crystals are much shorter than the front edges and the rear of the Fluorite crystals is a fracture surface with no matrix attached, presumably from where it was extracted. A substantial and significant display quality Fluorite from this famous French locality.
