The aesthetic balance of this specimen from Tongbei, in Yunxiao Co., Fujian Province, China is really rather lovely, with its combination of a uniformly dense scattering of small (1 mm), rounded, equidimensional orange Spessartine garnet crystals across the surface of a bed of cream-coloured Microcline, from which five large, deep brown, glassy, terminated Smoky Quartz crystals rise. A little further Spessartine crystals feature around the prism sides of the Quartz crystals, but their transparent to translucent pyramidal terminal faces are clear of overgrowth. The largest Quartz crystal reaches 5 cm in length and the smallest at around 1 cm. This is certainly a very pretty display plate from this important Chinese locality for Spessartine and even though the Spessartine crystals are on the small side, the overall display works wonderfully.
