With such a stunning, bright turquoise-blue colour, it is no wonder that the recent discoveries from the Tenke-Fungurume area in the Kolwezi mining district, DR Congo catch the attention of mineral collectors and non-collectors alike. Beautiful in appearance, the supply of this remarkable material already appears to be dwindling. Technically, a complex series of pseudomorphs and epimorphs, the original and long gone crystals were bladed Azurite, replaced, or pseudomorphed firstly by Malachite and then by bright blue Chrysocolla. Its current glistening surface is Quartz which encapsulates, or epimorphs, the Chrysocolla underneath with the shape of the original Azurite crystals preserved. Finally, dotted across its surface are tiny balls of dark green Malachite. A very vibrant miniature from this now famous find.
