A 9 mm long, colourless to white, hexagonal prismatic crystal of Beryl, featuring complex sloping edges to its flat, pinacoid terminations at both ends, is perched upon a thumbnail-sized matrix of both finely crystallized and coarser prismatic crystals of glossy very dark green to black tourmaline from Elba Island, Tuscany, Italy. Beryl crystals of any sort are extremely rare from Elba, and this one has history too. With it, is an old handwritten card display label from the Senator F.J. Kessler Collection in 1909. It is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021). The Beryl crystal might be small and might be on a small specimen, but it is extremely well-formed and a very rare piece to find nowadays.
