Classic Arizona locality, brilliant red lustrous crystals of vanadanite to 0.3 cm in size throughout all sides of this brecciated matrix with minor white calcite. This is in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark who acquired the piece in 1982.The Apache Mine, located in Gila County, Arizona, is a renowned lead and vanadium deposit hosted within Precambrian sedimentary rocks, primarily quartzite and limestone, that have been altered by hydrothermal activity. Originally worked during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries for lead and vanadium, the mine later gained widespread acclaim among mineral collectors for its world-class specimens of vanadinite. This secondary lead vanadate mineral formed in the oxidized zones of the deposit, producing brilliant, lustrous red to orange-red hexagonal crystals that are considered some of the finest examples of the species found in North America.
