A loose colorless prismatic grouping of mostly gemmy semi lustrous barite crystals. Naturally healed on the bottom termination. In good condition all around. Nice for this old Central Missouri mining district. The specimen comes with a previous collection label from Ray DeMark.Located near Gravois Mills in Morgan County, Missouri, the Lamb Mine is a small historic mineral locality best known among collectors for producing high quality crystal specimens. While exact corporate opening and closing dates for this specific prospect are not extensively documented in major mining archives, barite mining and prospecting throughout the region primarily scaled from the late 19th century through the mid 20th century alongside Missouri peak production eras. Barite itself is a relatively soft, heavy mineral composed of barium sulfate that typically forms in sedimentary environments, vein fillings, and residual clay deposits, frequently yielding transparent to translucent tabular crystal plates prized by mineral enthusiasts.
