Rich purple masses in matrix. Good example for the species. The specimen comes with a previous collection label from Ray DeMark.Tunnel Hill Quarry near Zeehan in the North Dundas region of Tasmania, Australia, is closely tied to the historic mining activities along the West Coast. While specific precise dates for the opening and closing of the quarry itself are not widely documented in formal historical records, mineral prospecting and small-scale operations in the area began around the late 19th century alongside the development of the nearby railway lines. Geologically, the site is part of the Dundas Ultramafic Complex, consisting primarily of ancient serpentinized ultramafic rocks that formed from mantle-derived igneous intrusions. The quarry is famously known as a locality for stichtite, a rare lilac to purple mineral that develops as an alteration product of chromite within green serpentine.
