Bethel Level, M.F. Oxford #7 Mine, attr. Ozark-Mahoning Company, Cave-in-Rock District, Southern Illinois
Ross Lillie Commentary 9.26.18 ...
It fits all the criteria, excellent quality, detailed provenance, rare location and aesthetic. It’s a perfect fit in all regards.
Mined circa late 1960s-early 1970s ...
I would have kept the golden fluorite in my collection because it would have added comprehension to the overall suite. I didn’t have a lot of material from the M.F. Oxford #7, West Green or A.L. Davis #4.

The Denton Mine fluorite, although very nice, was already well represented so it would not have been included. Bear in mind that I had some 2350 pieces in the collection and believe me not all of them were beautiful. There were plenty of aesthetically challenged pieces that few collectors would want other than those mineral mania types like me who seem to want to cover all bases. Really, my only criteria was lack of damage. if it was something new and wasn’t in the suite I’d document and save a good representative specimen. | ||
