Bikitaite is a very rare lithium-aluminum silicate and large, well-formed crystals, like this world-class, competitive crystal on matrix with colorful purple Fluorapatite, are exceptional and rare. Singles are common enough, all sourced from this same collection perhaps - but matrix specimens with any contrast are almost unheard of. This beautiful, transparent to translucent, 2 cm blade has the high luster and transparency so desired in the species. They are more often seen as micros or in small thumbnail groups and rarely with any contrastingly colored minerals like this lavender Fluorapatite and white Albite. The 2 cm-long Bikitaite is 1 cm in width and has a small, 3 mm sidecar crystal near the top. The Fluorapatite occurs as distinct to indistinct, rich, translucent lavender crystals, a couple of which are discernibly hexagonal. White Albite makes up much of the matrix and provides great contrast for both the Fluorapatite and Bikitaite. This is a superb and important small cabinet piece from the Foote Lithium Company Mine in North Carolina. Formerly in the Jack Eaker collection: Jack was the mine assayist during the heyday of its working life in the 1970s and 1980s, and built what is universally considered to be the finest collection of Foote Mine minerals. He sold part of his collection to us many years ago.
