Beautiful orange red gemmy prismatic crystal grouping of zincite. This is not natural, it is a byproduct from a smelter. In good condition.Zincite specimens from Poland are synthetic byproducts of industrial metallurgy rather than natural geological formations, originating primarily from smelters in the Silesia region. During the processing of zinc ores in muffle furnaces during the twentieth century, zinc vapors escaped and reacted with oxygen in the flue channels and chimneys. As these gases cooled, they crystallized on the brickwork of the furnace ventilation systems, building up layers of zinc oxide crystals. These accidental deposits produced crystalline masses in various colors, including red, orange, yellow, and green, depending on specific trace impurities like manganese or cadmium in the smelted ore. When the old smelters were dismantled, these crystallized furnace linings were recovered and distributed to the mineral market.
