Gypsum var. Selenite

An attractive and highly aesthetic association of Halite and Gypsum from the famous Sollstedt Potash Works, originating from the historic collection of H. Wunkhaus. The specimen displays an intricate and naturally balanced arrangement of translucent gypsum crystals intergrown with sharp, colorless to slightly smoky halite cubes on a warm-toned evaporite matrix.

The composition is particularly dynamic, featuring elongated tabular gypsum crystals radiating through a dense cluster of lustrous halite formations. Numerous transparent cubic halite crystals are scattered throughout the specimen, creating beautiful geometric contrast against the softer satin-like appearance of the gypsum. Fine textural details and multiple generations of crystallization add remarkable depth and complexity to the piece.

Specimens from the Sollstedt Potash Works are highly regarded among collectors of German evaporite minerals, especially aesthetic combinations of halite and gypsum, which became well known from a limited production appearing on the market during the early 2000s. Fine examples are increasingly difficult to obtain today due to the fragile nature of evaporite minerals and the limited availability of quality material.

The warm cream, honey, and colorless tones combine beautifully under display lighting, giving the specimen a refined and elegant cabinet appearance. The overall crystallization is exceptionally sculptural and highly photogenic, with excellent three-dimensional aesthetics from every angle.
