Lustrous sharp crystals of uvite measuring to 1.7 cm in size coming off matrix. This is crystallized all around and in great condition. Good example for this classic Brazilian material. The Brumado mining district, located in the Serra das Eguas region of Bahia, Brazil, contains some of the world's largest magnesite and talc deposits. Geologically, the area is characterized by a massive Paleoproterozoic dolomitic sequence that underwent hydrothermal alteration and metasomatism, resulting in the formation of high-purity magnesite bodies. These deposits are globally famous among mineralogists for their drusy cavities, which host exceptional crystals of uvite (a member of the tourmaline group) alongside hematite and magnesite. The uvite from Brumado is highly prized for its well-formed, tabular to rhombohedral crystals that typically exhibit a deep forest-green to reddish-brown color and excellent luster. Historically, the industrial potential of the district was recognized in the late 1930s, and large-scale commercial operations began in the 1940s under the Magnesita S.A. company. Mining remains extremely active today, and while the primary focus is the industrial production of refractory materials, the district continues to be a premier source of world-class mineral specimens for the international market.
