Wulfenite
Unknown Owner
Classic orange red tabular lustrous translucent crystals of wulfenite to 2.0 cm in size on matrix. In super condition. The Red Cloud Mine, located in La Paz County, Arizona, is one of the most famous localities in the world for wulfenite and has a history of small scale mining dating back to the late 19th century. The deposit occurs in oxidized lead bearing veins within volcanic host rocks, and mining activity was primarily focused on lead ore rather than large scale production. The mine is best known for producing exceptional wulfenite crystals, especially thin tabular crystals with a bright orange to red color and high luster. These crystals often occur isolated on matrix or as sharp, well defined plates, making them highly desirable to collectors. Although the mine was never a major industrial producer, its mineral specimens, particularly the vivid wulfenite, have made it a world class locality and an important part of Arizona mineral history.
