Manganoneptunite
A killer, fully terminated manganoneptunite from Russia(!) with amazing luster and show appeal. These came from a single small pocket of less than 10 good crystals recovered at the end of 2024, and were all privately sold to collectors by a Russian friend (Ivo of KARP, for those who know him) in Tucson 2025. I obtained one and only one, as others went other places, as my "allocation" since he knew I love rarities. This sharply formed crystal is mostly opaque, but has slight, wine-red highlights on the edges as well as crystal faces and cleavage traces that adds intrigue to this beautiful crystal. When we think of neptunite, in general, we automatically think of the California State Gem Mine in California, USA, however, Russia has numerous localities for manganoneptunite, like this particular locality for this handsome crystal. The crystal measures a full 3.3 cm in length with an angled, flat termination and is nearly a textbook monoclinic crystals, save its incompleteness on one side and the bottom. It does have one repair and some slight restoration that are barely discernible. All large crystals from this pocket were found in a collapsed state, and so the others have repairs as well. A stunning crystal for the species and really quite surprising for Russia!
