Lustrous black bladed crystals of manganite covering most of the top of matrix. In great condition and an excellent example for the species from the South African locality. The specimen comes with a previous label from The Lesnicks as shown at the end of the video.The Wessels Mine near Kuruman in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa is part of the Kalahari Manganese Field, one of the largest manganese deposits in the world. Mining began in the mid 20th century to extract manganese ore from sedimentary deposits hosted in Precambrian rocks. The mine has produced large quantities of manganese used in steel production. The locality is also well known among mineral collectors for rare and colorful manganese minerals from this important deposit.
