Rutile
Unknown Owner
A wonderful grouping of bright lustrous sharply formed undamaged rutile crystals coming off matrix. This is in excellent condition.Rutile from Graves Mountain in Lincoln County, Georgia occurs in a large metamorphic deposit that has produced titanium minerals and other species for many years. The locality was worked on a limited scale for rutile and related minerals hosted in quartz rich veins and altered rock within a metamorphic complex. Graves Mountain later became famous among collectors for well formed rutile crystals, often showing reddish brown prismatic forms, along with minerals such as lazulite, kyanite, and pyrophyllite. Today the site is known primarily as a collecting locality where periodic public digs allow collectors to obtain specimens from this classic Georgia mineral occurrence.
