From the noted gem pegmatites in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, this specimen is an exceptionally beautiful, small-cabinet sized splaying cluster of tourmaline crystals with amazing pastel green color. The six main crystals exhibit parallel growth, with 3 'sidecars' adding even more visual interest. The terminations and prism faces are smooth and glassy, and the gemmy interior serves to highlight the colors even more. These colors grade from pink to green to blue, and the overall aesthetic is simply sublime. I sighed when I first unwrapped this piece and took in its beauty. Elbaites are quite rare from here, with many ending up being cut and faceted until a single large find of 2022-23 brought us many specimens...but that bonanza has not been repeated since and between the civil and geological turmoil (a volcano went off near Goma!), it seems unlikely to produce such a treasure trove again. 37 grams.
