Cerussite
Choice old time specimen from Bohemia with twinned crystals of cerussite measuring to 2.0 cm in size on a galena matrix. In great condition. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video and would date to the early 20th century, if not the 19th century. Mining at Stribro in the Plzen Region of the Czech Republic has a long history dating back to the 12th century, when the area became an important center for silver production in Bohemia. The town, historically known as Mies, developed around rich hydrothermal vein deposits hosted in metamorphic rocks that yielded silver bearing galena along with lead, copper, and other base metals. Underground mining expanded during the medieval period and continued intermittently into modern times, contributing significantly to the regional economy. Today Stribro is recognized for its historic mine workings and mineral specimens that reflect its centuries long role in Central European mining history.
