Calcite, 58 cm, from the karst caverns of Wenshan County, Yunnan, China. This is an example of so-called “water level” calcites that formed in stages over eons as water levels rose and fell during the Ice Ages, in the karst terrain of China’s southern provinces. Purchased in rural China and brought home on a pallet full of blankets. Previously in the personal collection of an older Guilin dealer before 2015. Joe Budd photo.
