Diamond
As a natural Diamond crystal this presents the most amazing shape - a trisoctahedron - but as a gemstone it could never be cut due to extensive internal fracturing. This single, 7 ct crystal from Namibia, is broadly an octahedron, but it has modified edges creating a somewhat rounded appearance but with six pointed terminations. This is what is known of as a trisoctahedron. Its lustre is somewhat greasy to plastic-like and under magnification looking end-on down each termination a fascinating sequence of bright, parallel concentric lines displays. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection, no. 122.
