Jeremejevite
A competition-quality, complete crystal of jeremejevite. Jeremejevite, however one may pronounce (or mispronounce) it, is a gorgeous and very rare blue gem species, found "almost never" in the history of our mineral world. One single find back in around 1980 produced a single small pocket, and then we had no more until the early 2000s, with the discovery of a series of small pockets in the Erongo Mountains area of Namibia. These came and went over the years, in different styles. Some were well crystallized, most not. At their best, they reached sizes comparable to the old find but were generally more gemmy and transparent - as you see here. The best of the modern-era finds have had slightly more rounded terminations than the old material, and subtle difference in color. This piece, a fine gem crystal, is as good as it got from modern era finds. It likely dates from finds around 2010-15, although we are not entirely sure and it could even be older. 11.65 cts of rare cutting rough, to put a blunt final comment on this. Ex. Dr. Chris Stefano collection.
