Woodwardite
A unique geometry and composition makes this eye catching but the chemistry is also amazing - a mineral made of aluminum that is as light as paper or balsa wood! Woodwardite is a rare hydrated aluminium and copper sulfate and this new find in China has produced some spectacular pieces like this one! This multi-hued piece has wavy, open layered, hollow rounded and mounded, thin, delicately sculpted arches of Woodwardite that almost look to be organic in character. The distribution of the variegated color is very pleasing from subtle, beautiful pale blue to whitish on the outside edges to with a central "stripe" of medium blue-green and the basal portion is of mixed green-blue to rich medium blue in color. The composition of this piece is certainly a diversion from what we usually see in the mineral world! This is from the 2 flats we purchased in March of 2020, and no more of the quality came out since.
