This is a rare and rather large specimen of silver-bearing mineralization from the remote Santiago Alto mine, located some 30 miles south-west of Potosi in Bolivia. Although an important mine, very few mineral specimens are ever seen from there, and the few images of the silver-bearing ore minerals tend to be reflected light images taken of polished ore species, rather than hand specimen. Argyrodite, an extremely rare silver germanium sulphide, is one of the highlights of the silver mineralization at this mine and is reported on this specimen alongside Stephanite and Acanthite. There is the possibility of other rare silver sulphosalts being present of this large and rich specimen too.
