BARYTE with Malachite
Shangulowé mine in the Katanga Copper Crescent is renowned for having produced the finest Baryte-Malachite combination specimens anywhere in the DR Congo, most of which were collected during the late 1990s. This cabinet-size display specimen is a really lovely example, consisting of a thin layered botryoidal bed of dark forest-green glossy Malachite upon which striking colour-zoned glassy coffin-shaped Baryte crystals sit. The Malachite would be nice on its own, but the addition of Baryte sets it off wonderfully. The Baryte crystals are well-formed and quite thick compared to many seen from Shangulowé mine, and transition from colourless to white to beige brown at their tips. The largest crystal, which is doubly-terminated, is 2 cm in length with many other single-terminated crystals to 1.5 cm long. Overall, a very fine DRC Baryte-Malachite which is a great size for display.
